High performers do not like wasting time. In the business world, we track our progress with Key Performance Indicators, revenue metrics, and clear ROI. When we invest time and capital into a strategy, we expect to see tangible proof that it is working.

But how do you measure progress when the project is your own biology?

If you have been putting in the work to regulate your nervous system, you probably want to know if it is actually making a difference. In my own journey through severe corporate burnout, and now after years of guiding achievers through the Mindworx method at Top Human, I have seen firsthand how frustrating “invisible progress” can be.

Healing is not just a vague feeling. It is a biological process, and progress leaves physical clues. If you are wondering whether your somatic or energetic work is actually moving the needle, here are five undeniable, root-level signs that your nervous system is actively healing.

1. Physical Twitches and Tremors

One of the most surprising signs of a healing nervous system is entirely physical. You might start noticing little twitches, muscle spasms, or sudden jerks in your body, especially when you are doing an nervous system based exercise.

While traditional medicine often views a twitch as a random muscle misfire to be suppressed, a somatic perspective tells a completely different story. This is actually a biological win.

Wild animals naturally shake and tremor to discharge massive amounts of adrenaline after a life-threatening event. Human beings, however, are conditioned to suppress this response to maintain composure. A twitch or a tremor is the literal physical release of that bound survival energy finally leaving your tissue. Sometimes it is a quick jerk. Other times it might be a sustained tremor that shakes off the tension and then slowly settles.

If your body is doing this involuntarily, it means your autonomic nervous system finally feels safe enough to let go of the physical stress it has been holding onto for years.

2. The “Clean Windshield” Effect

When your nervous system is trapped in chronic stress, your brain’s threat-detection center is constantly working overtime. This requires a massive amount of cognitive load. As a result, your perception of reality becomes warped by old triggers, fatigue, and a constant baseline of anxiety.

As you actively do the work to unbind this tension, you will experience a profound shift in cognitive clarity. My clients and I often refer to this as the “Clean Windshield” effect.

It is often difficult to put into exact words, but imagine your perception is a windshield that has been covered in dirt and dried water spots for decades. As you clear the physical static out of your nervous system, that dirt gets wiped away. You start seeing business problems, relationships, and daily challenges with an entirely new level of clarity. The heavy mental fog lifts, and your executive function comes fully back online.

3. Un-Numbing Your Senses

High stress forces ambitious people to numb out. This is not a character flaw; it is a highly effective biological survival mechanism known as “functional freeze.” To survive the relentless pressure of scaling a business or managing a toxic environment, your body intentionally dials down its sensitivity so you do not get overwhelmed.

But there is a catch. Your nervous system is literally made up of the physical nerves that process sight, smell, sound, and touch. You cannot selectively numb your stress without also numbing your physical experience of life.

As your system heals, you will begin to “un-numb.” You will become more sensitive to the world around you in a deeply positive way. You might suddenly notice a sharper sense of taste during a meal, a keener sense of smell, or the vivid physical sensation of the wind on your skin during a walk. Coming back online can feel intense at first, but it is a definitive sign that you are moving out of survival mode and reclaiming your full biological capacity.

4. A New Baseline of Ease

When your nervous system is holding onto bound energy, it is tight, tense, and constantly on high alert. Many high-achievers burn up to forty percent of their daily energy just managing their own internal friction. It takes massive internal effort just to appear calm and collected to your team.

As you practice somatic release and that trapped energy dissipates, your internal baseline naturally shifts. The internal friction drops.

You will find yourself operating with significantly more ease. You will be less reactive to sudden changes in the market, less anxious about the future, and generally much calmer without having to force it. Situations that used to send you into a mental spiral will suddenly feel entirely manageable. You are no longer white-knuckling your way through the week.

5. Measurable Biological Upgrades (HRV and Sleep)

The final sign is the most data-driven. For the analytical executive who loves metrics, your wearable devices will absolutely validate your somatic work.

As the background tension physically leaves your body, your sleep architecture will dramatically improve. You will spend less time tossing and turning and more time in deep, restorative REM sleep.

Most importantly, you will likely see a steady climb in your Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV is the ultimate proxy for nervous system flexibility. A low HRV indicates your body is stuck in a rigid stress state, while a high HRV proves your system is agile, relaxed, and capable of adapting to challenges.

These are direct, biological indicators that the overall friction in your body is dropping. You are no longer sleeping with one eye open. Your system is finally able to access true recovery.

The Ultimate ROI

Working on your nervous system changes your entire experience of life. It is not about reaching some passive state of zen. It is about actively removing the internal roadblocks so you can reclaim your horsepower.

The internal friction fades out, the stress drops, and you regain the physical and mental capacity to actually enjoy what you are building.

If you are experiencing any of these five signs, you are on the exact right track. You have the right tools, and your biology is responding exactly as it should. Keep doing the work.
